Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The mastermind behind the killing of Dr Sunil Sahu, advocate Santosh Sharma surrendered in a local court on Monday after his accomplices, arrested on Sunday, spilled the beans. The police took him on remand till January 10 for interrogation.
Additional DCP Alok Kumar Sharma said that Dr Sunil Sahu’s wife Saloni had asked her paramour Santosh Sharma to plan her husband’s murder. Santosh contacted his advocate friend from Ujjain Manoj Sumant, who arranged a meeting between Santosh and veterinary doctor Prakash Yadav whom he knew for a decade. Prakash gave a contract to two shooters from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh for Rs 1.40 lakh to execute the murder and arranged firearms for both of them.
The two shooters, Hullan Yadav and Sangram Yadav, conducted a recce of Dr. Sahu’s clinic. On the night of December 27, Hullan and Sangram went to Dr Sahu’s clinic along with Santosh Sharma (as he had to identify the doctor), where Hullan shot him in the chest, leading to his death. Earlier, the police arrested the victim’s wife Saloni Sahu along with Manoj Sumant, Prakash Yadav and Sangram Yadav from their houses, while Hullan Yadav remained at large. The contract killing was executed for Rs 1.40 lakh but the shooters got only Rs 40,000.
Tension after doc saw SMS of wife’s ex-lover
According to the police, Dr Sunil Sahu saw his wife Saloni’s ex-lover Bunty’s text messages in her mobile phone. Bunty confronted Sunil and they sorted out their misunderstandings. Later, when Sunil saw Santosh’s text messages in her mobile phone, tension again rose between them due to trust issues. Later, Saloni hatched the murder plan with Santosh.
Wife’s expressions exposed her
During the investigation, the cops were surprised to see the facial expressions and body language of the deceased’s wife. She showed no grief over her husband’s death. The woman’s complacent attitude put her under the scanner.
Santosh removed wig to evade cops
Santosh used to wear a wig and police had his picture in which he wore a wig. When he was absconding, he removed his wig to evade the cops and stayed at bus stands, railway stations and other places in Ujjain, Dewas, Bhopal and Indore.
Police reached accused through CCTV camera footage
The prime accused hired two shooters for the murder but surprisingly, he used his car to pick and drop them on the crime spot. The compounder of the clinic, who was present on the spot, recognised Santosh by face but did not know his name. The police reached Santosh’s house in Ujjain through CCTV camera footage but he saw the cops’ vehicles coming to his house through the window. He jumped from the window to flee and got ligament injury. He went to his nephew’s (sister’s son) house in Ujjain and stayed there at night. Later, he fled to different cities in the state.
Santosh dropped the shooters at railway station in his car
The shooters fled to Ujjain with Santosh in his car which was parked a short distance from the crime scene. Santosh left both the shooters at Ujjain’s railway station to catch a train to Uttar Pradesh and returned home. Saloni’s brother was familiar with Santosh and informed him that someone had killed Dr Sunil Sahu.
