Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium is set to host the globally renowned music band Coldplay for a three-day concert on January 18, 19, and 21. With an estimated 45,000 attendees expected daily, elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth proceedings.
To maintain law and order during the event, Navi Mumbai Police have deployed extensive security personnel. Inside the stadium, a team comprising one Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), 70 police officers, and 434 staff will be on duty daily. For the surrounding areas, an additional DCP, 21 officers, and 440 staff will oversee public safety and traffic regulation. Moreover, to prevent any untoward incidents, plainclothes officers will monitor the event for drug-related activities and counterfeit ticket sales. Authorities have urged attendees to report any suspicious activities to the local police or via the helpline number 112.
Recognizing the potential for traffic congestion, the Traffic Police have implemented several measures. Heavy vehicles from Uran, Nhava Sheva, Pune, Thane, and Mumbai will be restricted from entering the city between 2 PM and 11 PM on all three event days. Parking and vehicular movement will be restricted in key areas, including the LP Bridge Signal to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and Shani mandir Arch to Bhimashankar Chowk. Roads such as the Indian Oil Terminal Service Road to Raheja Corner and Shivaji Nagar to Punyanagari have been declared no-parking zones, with alternate routes arranged for motorists. Seventeen towing cranes will be on standby to swiftly clear unauthorized parked vehicles and address road obstructions caused by accidents.
“Special parking arrangements have been made for attendee’s vehicles at designated locations, including Terna Ground, Tulsi Maidan, and Sector-15 CBD Belapur Parking. Additional parking facilities will be available at Raheja Universal and Raheja Mindspace in Nerul, BD Somani School and football ground at sector 32 in Kharghar. To ensure convenience, free private bus services will transport attendees to the venue. Ola, Uber, and private taxis will have designated pickup zones at Mindspace and Bhimashankar Ground,” Deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Pankaj Dahane said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Tirupati Kakade assured that over 450 traffic police officers, 400 wardens, and additional personnel have been deployed to manage vehicular flow during the event. He emphasized that the measures aim to provide attendees a hassle-free experience while minimizing disruptions in Navi Mumbai.
