A fire broke in a residential building named Kumkum on SV Road, Santacruz West on Monday morning, in which a four months old baby suffered asphyxiation. A statement released by the BMC said that the female child is identified as Naivedya Soni and she was taken to private hospital before the fire brigade arrived the spot. The child was discharged later in the day after her condition was stable.

The incident took place at Kumkum building number 5, a ground plus three storeyed residential building on SV Road, Santacruz West. The fire was confined to the second and third floor of the building. The fire incident took place at 10.47 am and firefighters swiftly covered the fire and it was doused at 1 pm. 

“The building was an old four floored building and did not have a internal fire fighting system. All residents had evacuated, however, one child suffered suffocation and was taken to a private medical center before the fire brigade arrived. The baby is in stable condition and was discharged after necessary treatment,” said a fire officer present at the spot.
