Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Massive Fire Breaks Out At Padegaon Garbage Depot | Sourced

The garbage depot at Padegaon caught fire once again on Tuesday night. The fire continued for the entire night, and the firefighting squads had to make strenuous efforts to extinguish the massive fire. The work of extinguishing the fire continued till Wednesday morning.

The fire engulfed the Padegaon depot at around 4pm on Tuesday. The fire brigade rushed to the spot after it was informed about the incident. The fire tenders from Padampura, Kanchanwadi, Cidco and Chikalthana fire stations were sent to the spot. Huge flames were visible until late Tuesday night. The work of extinguishing the fire continued till Wednesday morning due to the vast expanse of the area. Water was supplied to the fire tenders using the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) tankers. The residents of the Padegaon area faced severe inconvenience due to the smoke spread over the entire area following the massive fire.

While the CSMC has started garbage processing plants in various parts of the city, lakhs of tonnes of garbage have still accumulated in the garbage depots at Padegaon and Naregaon for the past several years. The incidents of fire in these depots are reported every year during the summer. The fire indicates this year, with soaring temperatures, summer days seem to have arrived early.
