Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A massive fire broke out at a building in Gwalior’s Khassgi Bazaar area at the wee hours on Thursday. The fire triggered three cylinder blasts, intensifying the flames, further engulfing five apartments of the building.

Indian Air Force had to intervene to control the fire.

The incident happened at Kalaan Gopal Multi building in Gwalior’s Khassgi Bazaar area. The blaze began around 3 AM in the basement, where an illegal thread-manufacturing unit was operating. The highly flammable materials stored in the factory caused the fire to spread rapidly, engulfing five flats on the second and third floors.

The severity of the fire led to the involvement of the Air Force’s fire brigade. It took until 8 AM to bring the blaze under control, though embers continued to smolder. A video of the same has gone viral on social media platforms.

According to information, the presence of highly flammable materials in the basement-based thread factory caused the fire to spread swiftly, engulfing five flats on the second and third floors of the Multi. As thick smoke filled the building, panic-stricken residents rushed downstairs to safety.

Fire brigade teams arrived promptly at the scene, but during the firefighting operation, five gas cylinders exploded in succession. Two firefighters, Lokendra and Purushottam Singh, sustained burn injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

Took five hours to douse the blaze

Given the intensity of the blaze, additional support was called in from the Air Force’s fire brigade. It took nearly five hours, until 8 AM, to bring the fire under control, although some embers continued to smolder. While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit may have sparked the blaze, which was intensified by the flammable thread-making materials and subsequent cylinder blasts.
