Thane: The Vishnu Nagar Police arrested a 42-year-old married man for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman after spiking in her drink on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Pravin Panekar, 42, who works at a private company.
The police said that Panerkar’s first wife had died, and they have one son. Thereafter, he married another woman and lived with her for the last two years. Thereafter, the accused left second wife and lived separately from her.
The accused met the victim at a program where he exchanged numbers and started a conversation with her. He allegedly raped her after spiking her drink.
The incident came to light when the victim became one month pregnant, and he promised to marry her. He told her to have a miscarriage, but he took Rs 3 lakh from the victim in several stages on pretext of miscarriage.
Subsequently, he allegedly threatened her that if she disclosed his name, she would face dire consequences. Following this, the victim approached the police station and filed a case against him on Sunday.
Sanjay Pawar, Senior Police Inspector from Vishnu Nagar Police Station, said, “We have registered a case. Based on preliminary investigation, we arrested the accused on Sunday, produced him in court, and remanded him to police custody for further investigation.”
