Ottawa, Canada: Mark Carney was officially sworn in as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister on Friday, March 14, in a ceremony at Rideau Hall, just one hour after his predecessor Justin Trudeau formally resigned. Carney, a seasoned economist with no previous political office experience, expressed confidence as he entered the ceremony, telling reporters that his government is “ready and focused” to tackle the challenges ahead.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Carney wrote, “Today, we’re building a government that meets the moment. Canadians expect action — and that’s what this team will deliver. A smaller, experienced cabinet that moves faster, secures our economy, and protects Canada’s future.”

The new Liberal government includes 24 ministers, with Carney at the helm. The cabinet features a blend of familiar faces from the Trudeau era and new additions. Key members of the team responsible for managing US-Canada relations since the return of Donald Trump to the White House remain in prominent roles, including Mélanie Joly, François-Philippe Champagne, David McGuinty, and Dominic LeBlanc.

This cabinet is expected to remain in place until a general election is called, which is anticipated before March 24, the date Parliament is scheduled to resume.

As Carney takes on the role of PM, Canada faces a turbulent period, with growing concerns over trade relations and a tense political climate with the United States. His leadership is seen as crucial in navigating these challenges and steering the country forward.
