Significance of Margashirsha Purnima
By worshiping the Moon on Margashirsha Purnima, one gets the blessings of Lord Vishnu and gets relief from stress. It is believed that Satyayuga started from this month.
Method of worship of Margashirsha Purnima (Margashirsha Purnima Pujan Vidhi)
- Wake up early in the morning and take bath.
- Clean the house and temple.
- Sprinkle Ganga water on the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna and Mother Lakshmi.
- Offer Ganga water and raw milk to God.
- Offer abir, gulal, sandalwood, akshat, flowers, molly, basil leaves.
- Recite Satyanarayan Katha.
- After the puja, take blessings of all the elders and distribute Prasad to everyone.
Bath and Meditation Method
- Take a resolution before bathing and put basil leaves in the bathing water.
- After taking bath, offer Arghya to the Sun.
- Wear white clothes and chant the mantra of Lord Vishnu.
- Donate white items (like rice, milk) and water.
- Make sure to offer Arghya to the moon at night.
- You can keep fast on this day and consume fruits and water.
Avoid mistakes on the day of Margashirsha Purnima (Dos and Don’ts)
- Get up before sunrise and take bath.
- Taking bath in a holy river or pond is considered best.
- Observe the fast with devotion, cleanliness and devotion.
- Do not consume tamasic things like onion, garlic, meat, fish, alcohol.
- Avoid sleeping in the afternoon during fasting.
- Make sure to offer churma while worshiping Lord Vishnu.
- Provide food to a worthy Brahmin and donate necessary items.
