Lyricist Manoj Muntashir has slammed Yuvraj Singh’s father, former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, for his sexist and controversial remarks. In a recent podcast, Yograj stirred a controversy by stating that Hindi is ‘woman’s language’ and that it lacks energy.
Yograj said that while it is acceptable for women to speak Hindi, men should prioritise speaking Punjabi, as he believes it carries a stronger and more assertive aura.
“Mujhe toh Hindi aisi lagti hai jaise koi aurat bol rahi ho… Jab aurat bolti hai to bahut accha lagta hai, jab mard Hindi bolta hai to aisa lagta hai ke kya bol raha hai ye kon aadmi hai. Mujhe wo difference lagta hai,” he said during the interview.
His comments have sparked criticism and debate. Reacting to it, Manoj wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “युवराज सिंह ने देश का नाम ऊँचा किया, उनके पिता योगराज सिंह नीचता में नाम पैदा करने निकले हैं. सुनिए इस जाहिल को, “मर्दों की भाषा पंजाबी, औरतों की भाषा हिंदी”, दुनिया की तीसरी सबसे बड़ी भाषा और इस देश की वीर नारियों को अपमानित करने वाले इस महामूर्ख को ‘थप्पड़ की भाषा’ बताने वाला कोई होना चाहिए (Yuvraj Singh made the nation proud, while his father, Yograj Singh, seems determined to create a name in disgrace. Listen to this ignorant man – ‘Punjabi is the language of men, Hindi is the language of women.’ This fool insults Hindi, the world’s third-largest language, and the brave women of this country. Someone needs to show this great idiot the ‘language of a slap’).”
Manoj added, “स्त्रीत्व और हिंदी, दोनों ने हमें सहनशक्ति सिखाई है वरना इस ज़हर उगलने वाले साँप के विषदंत तोड़ने वाले हिंदी माँ के बेटे-बेटियों की भारत में कोई कमी नहीं है. एक प्रार्थना इस रोगी के लिए अपने तेजस्वी गुरुओं की महान भाषा पंजाबी में करना चाहता हूँ, ਜਲਦੀ ਠੀਕ ਹੋਵੋ (Both womanhood and Hindi have taught us patience, or else there’s no shortage of sons and daughters of Mother Hindi in India who would have broken the venomous fangs of this snake spewing poison. I wish to say a prayer for this troubled soul in the glorious Punjabi language of his wise ancestors: Get well soon).”
During the conversation, Yograj also stated that women should not be made the heads of households, claiming they would “destroy it.” He controversially remarked, “A wife will destroy your house if you give her power. Sorry to say, Indira Gandhi ran this country and destroyed it. Give them respect and love, but never give them power.”
Yuvraj Singh has not reacted to the backlash his father is receiving on social media for his controversial comments.
