News India Live, Digital Desk: Manipur: Various political parties of Manipur have lodged a meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and lodged an objection to delimitation on the basis of the 2001 census. Submitting a memorandum, all the parties argued that the 2001 census data is said to be flawed. Along with this, the delimitation should be postponed by 2026, when delimitation will be done at the national level on the basis of the new census. BJP and Congress had already objected to the 2001 figures. The Supreme Court gave three months time for delimitation in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur in March.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Monday demanded 11 political parties to postpone the delimitation process in the state by 2026. For this, all political parties have also given a memorandum together. These parties include NPP, JDU, CPI (M), AAP, NCP, Nationalist Congress Party, Nationalist Congress Party-SP, Revolutionary Samajwadi Party, Republican Party of India (Athawale), Shiv Sena (UBT), Manipur People’s Party (MPP) and BSP.
Political parties held a meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Monday and should register their objections about the delimitation process. All political parties have demanded in unison that delimitation should be postponed by 2026. Although Congress and BJP have not attended this meeting, they have already lodged their objection to delimitation.
The central government said this in court
On behalf of the Central Government, it was said in the Supreme Court in March that it is not right to deliver at this time due to the ongoing violence in Manipur. Since May 2023, more than 260 people have been killed in ethnic violence between Maetai and Cookie-Groups in the Imphal Valley and thousands of people have become homeless, which are majority in mountainous areas.
Supreme Court had ordered
The Supreme Court on March 17 gave the Center three months to complete the delimitation process in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Assam. Manipur currently has President’s rule.
What political party said on delimitation
NPP state president Yumnam Joy Kumar said after the meeting that it is unfortunate that Congress and BJP were not involved in those political parties, they met the Governor. We are requesting the Center not to delimulate in the next three months as per the instructions of the Supreme Court. ” He questioned the reliability of the 2001 census data, on the basis of which the delimitation was to be made.
