Manchester United legend and Ballon d’Or winner Denis Law passed away at the age of 84. Manchester United announced his demise on Saturday. Law began his football journey at Huddersfield Town before making his name as a prolific goal-scorer with Manchester United.

His family issued a heartfelt statement through Manchester United, stating, “It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father, Denis Law, has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but is now at peace. We thank everyone who contributed to his care and well being and for the love and support shown to him.”

Manchester United paid tribute, calling Law “the King of the Stretford End” and one of the club’s greatest players, praising his goal-scoring prowess, spirit, and enduring legacy.

“Everyone at Manchester United is mourning the loss of Denis Law, the King of the Stafford End, who has passed away, aged 84.”

“He will always be celebrated as one of the club’s greatest and most beloved players. The ultimate goal-scorer, his flair, spirit and love for the game made him the hero of a generation.”

“Our deepest condolences go out to Denis’ family and many friends. His memory will live on forever more.”

Denis Law’s illustrious career

Law made an unforgettable impact at Old Trafford, scoring 237 goals in 404 appearances for United. Starting at Huddersfield Town in 1955, he broke records with Manchester City before moving to Torino in 1961. He returned to Manchester in 1962, joining United under Matt Busby.

A key player in United’s successes, he scored in the 1963 FA Cup final and helped secure league titles in 1965 and 1967. In 1964, he was awarded the Ballon d’Or as Europe’s best player. Despite injuries keeping him out of the 1968 European Cup triumph, his contributions remain legendary.

Law later rejoined Manchester City in 1973 and retired after representing Scotland at the 1974 World Cup, finishing as the country’s joint all-time top scorer with 30 goals in 55 appearances.
