Mumbai: An incident of assault on a police officer during duty has been reported in the Malad area. According to the police, a man trying to disrupt traffic attacked a police officer with a stick when he was stopped.
The accused, identified as Arun Harijan, fled the scene after the attack.
A case of attempted murder has been registered in Malad Police station, and the police are actively searching for the accused.
The victim, Assistant Sub-Inspector Manik Sawant (52), is posted at the Malad Police Station. On Christmas Day, Sawant was on a routine patrol with two other officers to maintain law and order in the area.
While patrolling near Kachpada in Malad, they noticed a traffic jam. Upon investigation, Sawant observed a man deliberately obstructing vehicles.
When Sawant intervened and moved the man aside, the accused became enraged and threatened to kill him. He then picked up a stick and struck Sawant on the head.
The blow rendered Sawant unconscious, and the accused fled the scene. The other two officers in the patrol van immediately rushed Sawant to Tunga Hospital in Malad, where he received treatment. Sawant regained consciousness after medical care.
Based on Sawant’s complaint, the Malad Police have registered a case under Sections 109, 132, and 1352 of the BNS Act. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accused.
