Aurangabad Honor Killing: Man Kills Cousin Over Relationship With Boy From Same Locality |

Upset over friendship with a boy from the same locality, a man killed his 17-year-old cousin sister by pushing her into a gorge on Monday afternoon. The incident of honour killing has shaken the city. The police have arrested the suspected cousin. The deceased has been identified as Namrata Ganeshrao Sherkar (17) and her accused cousin Rishikesh alias Vaibhav Tanaji Sherkar (25, Wadadgaon).

Victim Namrata lived in Shriram Colony, in Ambad taluka in Jalna district and was studying in class twelfth. She had intimate relations with a boy from the same locality. Both of them had eloped, but the family members found them and brought the girl back home. Her parents kept her in the house of her uncle at Wadadgaon. Her uncle, aunt and cousin Rishikesh started counselling her to keep away from the boy.

Accused has several cases against him

On Monday, Rishikesh took his sister along with him on his motorcycle (MH20 GH 2624) to a nearby Khawalya mountain on Dhule – Solapur Highway in Waluj area. He tried to convince her to keep away from the boy. However, she was not in the mood to listen. Hence, he pushed her into a gorge.

Some of the nearby residents stopped Rishikesh while he was trying to escape from the spot and handed him over the Waluj MIDC police. PI Krushna Shinde, API Sanjay Gire, PSI Dinesh Ban, Balasaheb Andhale, Rajabhau Kolhe, Manoj Bansode, Gorakh Wagh, Suresh Kachhe rushed to the spot and searched the victim and rushed her to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where the doctors declared her dead after the examination.

Rishikesh has a criminal background and several cases have been registered against him with the Satara and Waluj police stations. He even spent some time in the Harsul prison, the police said.
