Umaria (Madhya Pradesh): A man was arrested for murdering a woman in Sejwahi village under Indwar police station, official sources said on Thursday. A villager informed the police on December 28 that the body of a woman was lying near a field in Sejwahi village.

On getting information, a police team rushed to the spot and began to probe the case. The woman, whose body was found, was identified as Mahima Patel aka Priya, a resident of Sejwahi village.

During the probe, it came to light that Priya married a man Akhilesh Patel in 2020 with whom she had an affair. In 2024, she left her husband a two-and-a-half-year-old son and started living with Amit Patel in Kannauj district, Uttar Pradesh. She left her house without saying anything to anyone.

On December 26, she came to Sejwahi village to take her son back. One December 27, when she was waiting for a bus to return to Kannauj, Akhilesh reached there and began to fight with her, asking her not to go there.

Afterwards, her body was found near a paddy field. When the police took Akhilesh into custody and questioned him, he confessed to having murdered Priya.
