The Oshiwara police on Thursday filed a case against an individual for allegedly impersonating a Maharashtra Excise Department agent and facilitating the issuance of counterfeit one-day liquor permits to residents of a high-profile society in Andheri.

The accused has been identified as Vijay Sharangdhar.

According to the FIR, the Maharashtra Excise Department received information about an individual creating and distributing fake liquor permits in the Andheri area.

At Windsor Grande Residence in Oshiwara, eight parties were organized where the accused allegedly distributed the counterfeit permits.

Based on information the Excise Department has done an inquiry and revealed that Vijay Sharangdhar claimed to be an agent of the Excise Department. He issued the permits to residents and collected payments through cash and online transactions.

The residents of Windsor Grande Residence were unaware that the permits were fake, believing them to be genuine. Upon investigation, the Excise Department found that five out of the eight permits were counterfeit.

Somnath Kothule, 38, an officer of the Maharashtra Excise Department, filed a complaint with the Oshiwara police. He stated that the government incurred a loss of Rs.59,400 due to the accused’s actions.

The police registered the case under Sections 318(4) (cheating), 336(2), and 336(3) (forgery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on December 26.
