Railway Police have arrested a man involved in selling fake tickets to passangers at Pune Railway Station, officials said on Monday. The accused has been identified as Atul Mohan Adalinge (30, resident of Loni Kalbhor), they added.
According to the railway police, for the past several days, multiple complaints were received regarding a person selling fake tickets to passengers travelling to North India. The accused was purchasing platform tickets, writing the destination station’s name on them with a black pen, and altering the printed price of ₹10 to ₹310, ₹410, ₹510 or even ₹810. He used to then sell these fake tickets to illiterate passengers.
On January 31, two passengers, Nirman Vasudev Yadav (17, a resident of Katihar, Bihar) and Narendra Omi Kashyap (18, from Dholpur, Rajasthan) approached Pune RPF with platform tickets they had purchased at an inflated price. Another passenger, Sanjukumar Tikaram Yadav from Bilaspur, also reported a similar fraud to the RPF.
Accordingly, with the help of technical analysis, on February 1, Adalinge was arrested near the main gate of the railway station.
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Assistant Inspector of Police Santosh Jayabhaye, said, “The accused was arrested in a sexual harassment case in Solapur. After five months, he was released on bail. To earn money, he shifted to Pune. He used to sell the platform tickets by altering the numbers of actual marked prices on tickets. A search of his belongings led to the seizure of two platform tickets and a black pen, which he used for forgery. Regarding the matter, a case has been registered under sections 318(4) & 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).”
