The Central Police arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl under the pretext of promising her marriage, which resulted in her becoming seven months pregnant. The police said that the accused had allegedly provided pills for abortion. She had a miscarriage, and the fetus had been buried. The alleged crime involves the accused’s wife and in-laws helping him.

The police said that the incident came to light when the victim went to the hospital for treatment after an abortion. Following this, the doctor became suspicious of her abortion, verified her age, and alerted the local police.

The police said that the accused, Sanjay (a name changed to protect the identity of the victim), lived with his wife and children in Ulhasnagar while the victim was his neighbor. 

The police said that the accused allegedly raped a minor who is a college-going student four times and that she was seven months pregnant. The accused had allegedly provided pills for abortion. She had a miscarriage, and the fetus had been buried. According to the police, during the investigation, it was learned that the accused and the victim had a romantic relationship. He made a promise to marry her.

A case was filed against the accused, his wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Shankar Awadtade, Senior Police Inspector from Central Police Station, said, “We have filed an FIR based on the complaint filed by the victim. We arrested the accused on Wednesday. Upon receiving information from a complaint, the police recovered the fetus from the burial and sent it for DNA testing. He was produced in court and remanded in police custody for further investigation.”
