The opposition INDIA alliance appears to be facing internal discord, with differences among its member parties coming to the fore. Following the defeat of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition in Maharashtra, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her desire to take over the leadership of the INDIA alliance, stating that the Congress is incapable of effectively leading the opposition bloc.

Several leaders within the INDIA alliance welcomed Banerjee’s statement. NCP leader Supriya Sule stated that she is pleased with Banerjee’s willingness to shoulder additional responsibility.

Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena leader Uday Sawant criticised the Congress party, further highlighting the rift within the alliance.

Speaking to a news agency on Mamata’s reported remarks, Sawant said, “This is an insult to Congress party. This proves that the Congress leadership is not good enough, not capable enough to lead. Sharad Pawar himself has cleared this.”

Amid these developments, speculation is rife in political circles about the future of the MVA coalition. Reports suggest that Uddhav Thackeray might distance himself from the Congress and contest upcoming local body elections independently.

On Saturday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi praised Mamata Banerjee for BJP away from power.

“She has put forward her statement. Because she has shown a successful model in West Bengal where she has kept the BJP away from power and implemented good welfare schemes…her election experience and fighting spirit, accordingly she has shared her interest. Whenever the INDIA bloc meeting takes place, our senior leaders will together take a decision,” She said.

Sharad Pawar Backed Mamata

Notably, former Maharashtra CM and NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar backed Mamata’s leadership Sharad Pawar backs Mamata Banerjee’s leadership potential.

Expressing support for WB CM, Pawar has stated that Mamata is promininet leader of the nation and she has capability to lead.

“The elected leaders she sent to Parliament are responsible, dutiful, and well-aware people. Therefore, she has the right to say so,” he added.
