Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), alleging that these organizations played no role in India’s freedom struggle. He challenged BJP and RSS to give examples of their contribution in history.

Emphasis on the role of Congress in honoring Ambedkar.

Kharge said on social media platform He stated that:

  • To bring Babasaheb to the Constituent Assembly, Congress took M.R. Jayakar’s resignation.
  • Mahatma Gandhi suggested Babasaheb’s name as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly.
  • Gandhiji played an important role in making Babasaheb the first Law Minister of the country.
  • Congress elected Babasaheb unopposed to the Rajya Sabha twice, so that he could become a part of the Parliament in a respectable manner.

Mention of installing Ambedkar’s statue in Parliament

Kharge told that on April 2, 1967, the Congress government had installed the largest statue of Babasaheb in the Parliament House. At that time Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was the President and Sardar Hukum Singh was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Accusations on BJP-RSS

Kharge accused the BJP and RSS of:

  • The RSS did not hoist the tricolor at its Nagpur headquarters for 52 years and was forced to do so after a court order.
  • Members of BJP and RSS burnt the effigies of Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Dr. Ambedkar and burnt copies of the Constitution.
  • He said that BJP and RSS continued to oppose the freedom struggle, the Indian Tricolor, the Constitution, and Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Kharge’s challenge

Kharge challenged BJP and RSS to read history and prove their contribution to the freedom struggle. He said that Congress has played a historic role in the Indian freedom struggle and social reforms, which cannot be erased by false propaganda.
