Malayalam actress Vincy Aloshious recently addressed the growing backlash over her comments on refusing to work with co-actors who use drugs. In an Instagram video on Monday (April 14), the actress explained her stance, which she first shared at an anti-drug campaign event, saying she would not work with actors who consume narcotics.
However, it backfired as several social media users trolled her. Reacting to the backlash in her latest video, Vincy recounted a troubling experience on the set of a film where the male lead, allegedly under the influence of drugs, acted inappropriately towards her and another colleague.
“Once, when there was a minor issue with my costume, he came forward and said, ‘Shall I have a look? I’ll fix it for you,’ in front of everyone,” she said in the video, according to media reports. On another occasion, she claimed to have seen him “exhale a white powdery substance” during a rehearsal.
Clarifying that her objection is not about what people do in their personal lives, Vincy stated that unprofessional behaviour on set crosses a line. “Using drugs is one thing. But using them on set and disturbing others is not acceptable,” she stated firmly.
Vincy also revealed that despite the discomfort, she continued with the project due to repeated apologies from the makers. “I had only a few days of shoot left. I somehow endured and completed it,” the 29-year-old actress added.
Addressing accusations that her remarks were a publicity stunt or a reflection of dwindling film opportunities, Vincy said, “I have the courage to say that I’m waiting for good roles.”
She denied that her comments stemmed from professional insecurity and stressed that standing by one’s principles doesn’t require stardom. “Whether someone is a star or not, a position is a position. It deserves respect,” she further mentioned.
Vincy concluded by saying she has made a conscious decision to stay away from alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs.
Vincy, who made her acting debut in 2019 with the Malayalam film Vikruthi, has been part of other projects like Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham, Rekha, Padmini, Jana Gana Mana, Pazhanjan Pranayam, Marivillin Gopurangal, Nayaka Nayakan, and more.
