Mumbai: A 65-year-old pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a speeding bike in Malad on Saturday night. The biker, 22-year-old Pierre Abranches, initially took the injured man to the hospital, but the victim succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday.
The deceased, Bindeshwar Ramanugrah Pandit, had gone for a post-dinner walk around 9 pm on Link Road in Malad West when the accident occurred in front of the Kalapurnam Showroom. A witness, a young boy, rushed to Pandit’s house to inform his family, as reported by Hindustan Times. His daughter, Vandana, later told the police that the boy reported seeing a red bike hit her father, leaving him severely injured.
Biker Explains How Accident Took Place
Abranches, the biker involved in accident, explained to Vandana that he was heading towards Goregaon when Pandit suddenly stepped onto the road from Motilal Nagar. Unable to control his bike in time, he collided with the elderly pedestrian. Based on Vandana’s complaint, Malad police booked Abranches under Section 106(1) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence.
Recent Accidents Reported In Mumbai
In another tragic incident, a young biker in his late 20s lost his life on February 8 at Aarey Milk Colony in Goregaon East. He was riding on the newly constructed cement concrete main road when he attempted to overtake a vehicle and collided with a bus, leading to his death.
Similarly, on January 5, 18-year-old college student Sahil Jhujham was killed in an accident involving a speeding truck. The truck, driven by 45-year-old Sirajuddin Mohammed Ayub Aga Syed, crashed into a motorcycle carrying Sahil and 21-year-old Mahendra Ingle. Sahil, who was riding pillion, suffered fatal injuries, while Ingle was seriously hurt.
Passersby rushed Sahil to Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri East, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later moved to Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon West for a post-mortem.
