Mumbai: A major fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at a housing society in Vidyavihar West. The blaze erupted in Takshshila CHS in Neelkanth Kingdom Complex causing major damage to property and leaving one person dead and another injured.

The fire was reported at around 4:35 am, and the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) classified it as a Level-II fire. Firefighters rushed to the scene and battled the flames for nearly three hours before bringing the situation under control by 7:33 am.

Fire On 1st & 2nd Floor Of High-rise

According to officials, the fire was confined to electric wiring, installations, household items, wooden furniture, an AC unit and clothes in five flats located on the first and second floors of the 13-storey high-rise building.

The blaze also spread to the wooden wall fittings, shoe racks and other furniture in the lobby on the first and second floors, raising concerns among residents. Fire brigade personnel managed to safely rescue 15 to 20 people from the building, preventing a larger tragedy.

1 Security Guard Dies, Another Injured With Burns

Despite the rescue efforts, two security guards suffered severe burns. They were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment. Dr Kadam, the medical officer on duty, confirmed that one of them, 43-year-old Uday Gangan, had sustained 100 per cent burns and was declared dead on arrival. The other, Sabhajit Yadav, 52, suffered 25 to 30 per cent burns and remains in the trauma ward in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and authorities are conducting an investigation to establish whether it was due to an electrical short circuit or other reasons. Emergency response teams, including fire brigade personnel and police, worked swiftly to manage the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
