Fire devastates Gyaneshwar Nagar slum in Bandra, leaving 20 huts gutted and a senior citizen injured |

Mumbai: A senior citizen was injured in a fire that broke out at the Gyaneshwar Nagar slum in Bandra East on Saturday afternoon. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) carried out a firefighting operation for two hours and successfully controlled the blaze. Unfortunately, 15 to 20 huts were gutted in the fire.

As per information received from the fire officials the incident was reported at 2.36 pm inside the Gyaneshwar nagar situated near ONGC colony in Bandra East. The fire was declared level-one at 2.57 pm.

“Fire was confined to electric wiring, installation, wooden furniture, household articles etc. in an area spanning 100*150ft of upto 20 shanties,” said a fire official.

The MFB deployed four fire engines and four jumbo tankers at the spot along with fire and police officials on the site. The fire was extinguished at 4.06pm.

During the incident, local residents rescued 60-year-old Sherkhan Ayub Khan, who suffered minor facial injuries. He was immediately rushed to Holi Family Hospital in Andheri by a private vehicle. Doctors confirmed that his condition is stable.
