New Delhi: The Indian IT industry, which has earned a revenue of about $ 283 billion in the current financial year, is going through major changes in its decades -old structure. This is because automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (generative AI) have changed the skill sector and reduced the requirement of entry level engineers.
Traditionally, IT service companies followed the pyramid structure, with a large number of new engineering graduates and a large number of people ready for deployment. But now appointments at the entry level are decreasing and the share of mid -level workforce with 5 to 13 years of experience is increasing.
Data from expert staffing firm Exfeno shows that the top 7 Indian IT companies and 10 medium-sized companies have about 6,95,500 employees from mid-junior with 5 to 13 years of experience with 5 to 13 years of experience. In comparison, the number of freshers, entry-level and junior engineers is around 5,30,150, which reflects changes in IT infrastructure.
When large-scale recruitments were made in 2021-2022, junior talents with 3 to 5 years of experience played a major role in it. The number of employees with experiences of 5 to 9 and 9 to 13 years at the middle level is also large. There has been a relatively decrease in the number of lower level employees in the last three years.
The slow growth rate has also contributed to this during the last three years. According to experts, companies now need more experienced people to work fast on live projects.
This change means that the number of employees at the base level will be reduced and the number of middle level engineers with 5 to 13 years of experience will increase, as most coding works will be automated.
