Srinagar: In a major breakthrough for security forces, top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Altaf Lalli was neutralised in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora on Friday. Two police personnel also sustained injuries in the gunfight.

The Bandipora encounter broke out on Friday morning. The joint operation was launched to hunt down LeT terrorists in the region after the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack.

“OP KOLNAR, Bandipora On 25 Apr 2025, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in general area Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Contact was established and a firefight ensued. Operation is in progress,” the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said in an X post in the morning.

It is the third encounter in three days after the Pahalgam terror attack. On Wednesday, two terrorists were neutralised by security personnel after the Indian army foiled an infiltration bid in the Uri sector in north Kashmir.

On Thursday, an Indian Army commando was killed in action during an encounter between security forces and a group of terrorists in Udhampur.

On April 22, five to six terrorists killed 28 people at Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam. Among the deceased were 27 tourists and one local pony guide. The terrorists singled out Hindu males and shot them dead.
