The Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning on 28 April 2025 to the Hyderabad office. The case is related to two real estate companies of Hyderabad – Sai Surya Developers and Surana Group – who are accused of cheating investors. According to the ED, these companies collected large amounts of money from people in the name of selling plots, but they were not given the property as promised.
What is Mahesh Babu’s role?
Mahesh Babu was the brand ambassador of these companies and promoted their projects. The ED says that he received an amount of ₹ 5.9 crore in lieu of this, out of which ₹ 3.4 crore was given through banking channels and ₹ 2.5 crore in cash. The ED suspects that the amount given in cash may have been acquired illegally. However, Mahesh Babu has not been made an accused yet, but he will be questioned about this transaction.
What are the allegations on companies?
Sai Surya Developers and Surana Group are accused of cheating investors in the name of selling plots. These companies sold the same plot to many people and made promises of fake registration. The ED raided the bases of these companies in Hyderabad and Secunderabad on 16 April, which found documents of illegal transactions worth more than ₹ 100 crore.
Mahesh Babu’s response and potential impact
Mahesh Babu has not yet made any public statement on the matter. His fans and the film industry are concerned about this summons, as he is working on several projects including SS Rajamouli’s upcoming big budget film. However, the ED has clarified that Mahesh Babu has been called only for questioning and has not been considered an accused.
