He was the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism. What is the Panchsheel principle of Mahavir Swami?
The Panchsheel element created by Mahavir Swami is one of the fundamental moral principles of Jainism. These principles insist on following the path of non-violence, truth, restraint and self-purification in life:
Ahimsa – Its message is that stay away from violence in every situation. He said that he should not hurt anyone by mistake.
Truth – The person who is intelligent and is associated with truth, also crosses the difficult path like death. So he inspired the Saidev people to speak the truth.
Astay- People who follow Astay do not accept anything in any form without permission. A hundred people are always restrained and only accept the things given voluntarily.
Brahmacharya – To adopt this theory, Jains have to follow the qualities of purity and restraint. In which they stay away from any type of sexual activity.
Aparigraha- It is believed that by practicing Aparigraha, Jains develop their spiritual consciousness and stay away from the material things and comforts of the world.
How is Mahavir Jayanti celebrated?
On the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, Jain followers take out Prabhatferi and after that a grand procession is taken out and the palanquin is taken out. After this Lord Mahavira is anointed with gold and silver utensils. Flags are hoisted on the peaks. The Jain community organizes various religious programs throughout the day and celebrates Mahavir’s birth anniversary with great pomp.
