The festival of Mahashivaratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. According to mythology, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were married on this day, so this festival is considered very auspicious. The special significance of worshiping Lord Shiva is mentioned in the Vedas and Puranas. Not only India, but also in abroad, evidence of Shivalinga worship is found, which makes it clear that the worship of Lord Shiva has been going on since time immemorial.

When is Mahashivaratri 2025?

This time the holy festival of Mahashivaratri will be celebrated on 26 February 2025. On this day, fasting fasting and worshiping Lord Shiva and awakening the night and receives his grace.

Mahashivratri worship method

On the day of Mahashivaratri, worshiping and anointing Lord Shiva is considered extremely auspicious. Lord Shiva is anointed with special ingredients in every pan.

  2. Second Prahar: Bath with curd.
  3. Third Prahar: anoint with ghee.
  4. Fourth Prahar: Offer honey.

Offer 108 Belpatra: On the day of Mahashivaratri, offer 108 Belpatra with three leaves to Lord Shiva, this makes them happy soon.
Om Namah Shivaya Mantra: On this day, chant the Om Namah Shivaya Mantra as much as possible, it removes all the sufferings.
Take a bath again in the evening: Before worshiping Shivaratri at night, one should take a bath with pure water.
Offer cannabis, dhatura and sugarcane juice on the Shivling: This remedy helps in bringing happiness, prosperity and peace in life.
Do the night awakening: Perform meditation and bhajan-kirtan of Lord Shiva all night, Lord Shiva provides special grace from it.
