Mahashivaratri is the auspicious festival of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, which devotees celebrate Shiva’s worship, fast and Rudrabhishek. This festival is considered to provide spiritual purification, happiness, prosperity and salvation.

This year Mahashivaratri will be celebrated on 26 February 2025, Wednesday. According to the Panchang, the Chaturdashi date of Phalgun Krishna Paksha will start from 11:08 am on February 26 to 8:54 am on February 27.

The fast of Mahashivaratri will be observed on 26 February 2025.
Jalabhishek will be performed in various auspicious time on 27 February.

Mahashivaratri 2025: Auspicious time of Jalabhishek

On 27 February 2025, devotees can perform Jalabhishek on Shivling:

Morning: 6:47 AM – 9:42 am
Midday: 11:06 AM – 12:35 pm
PM: 3:25 pm – 6:08 pm
Night: 8:54 pm – 12:01 am

By performing Jalabhishek in these Muhurtas, the special grace of Lord Shiva is obtained.

Mahashivaratri fast and worship method

Bath and Resolution:
After bathing in the morning, take a resolution of Nirjala fast and speak the resolution of Shiva worship.

Shivalinga Pujan:
Offer water, milk, curd, honey, ghee and Ganga water on the Shivling.
Offer bilvapatra, mud, Kaner, dhatura and katli flowers.
Chant Shiva Mantras, like – “Om Namah Shivaya”

Rudrabhishek and Katha:
Recite Shivpuran, Rudripath and Shivamahiman Stotra.
If possible, do Rudrabhishek.

Night awakening:
Perform bhajan-kirtan overnight and be absorbed in Shiva worship.

Fasting Paran:
The next day (27 February), after worshiping Shiva, perform yajna with 108 sacrifices with barley, sesame and kheer.
Fasting the Brahmins and pass the fast.
