Social activist Anjali Damania alleged severe mental harassment by the supporters of Maharashtra ministers Dhananjay Munde and Pankaja Munde over her recent remark about late BJP leader Gopinath Munde.
Damania claimed to have received numerous threatening calls, some from a person named Narendra Sangale, who she says has been calling her incessantly for the past four days.
In a press conference, Damania shared that she has been subjected to up to 700-800 calls in a single day. She stated that her phone has not stopped ringing, with calls still coming through. Damania attributed these actions to the supporters of the Mundes, accusing them of orchestrating a campaign of harassment.
“I am accused of creating social disharmony by targeting the Vanjari community. I have not done
anything like that. I just mentioned that since the times of (late BJP stalwart) Gopinath Munde, all
government appointees in Beed are from one community. Police in the district who belong to a
particular community bond with Karad and cannot probe him,” she alleged.
“I have met Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla in this regard. I also urge Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take action against those troubling me,” Damania added.
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Chief Minister Fadnavis said, “Whatever complaint Anjali Damania has, she should report it to the police, who will definitely act on it.”
Damania further said that the ongoing investigation into the murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh was ‘hogwash’. She called for the disbanding of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate Deshmukh’s murder, accusing it of being compromised and incapable of conducting an impartial investigation. Damania suggested that officers from outside the state should be appointed to ensure a fair inquiry.
She pointed out that two officers involved in the investigation had ties to local political figures, raising doubts about their ability to conduct an unbiased probe. She shared a photo on Twitter of one of these officers, Mahesh Vighne, and questioned whether the investigation would be truly independent.
On the other hand, a CID special investigation team led by Dr Basvaraj Teli has been tasked with looking into the murder case. The team, which includes 10 officers and staff, was formed after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s announcement during the Nagpur winter session. The Beed police had already filed charges under various sections in the case.
