Mumbai: The Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, in partnership with the British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations, has launched the Capacity Building for International Officers programme.
This initiative, originating from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two entities, seeks to elevate the global engagement efforts of higher education institutions across the state.
A total of 36 participants from 18 public and private universities in Maharashtra have been chosen for this specialised workshop. The programme is designed to equip institutions with the expertise needed to foster global academic collaborations.
It aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which envisions India as a global education hub through cross-border partnerships and institutional excellence.
The workshop features modules focused on skill development and practical strategies for internationalisation. These sessions aim to empower international officers with the tools to implement effective global engagement strategies and promote knowledge sharing among institutions.
Vikas Chandra Rastogi, IAS, Principal Secretary for the Higher and Technical Education Department, called the initiative a transformative step for Indian higher education. He emphasised its alignment with NEP 2020 and Maharashtra’s vision to enhance education quality while building strong international connections.
Rashi Jain, Director, West India, at the British Council, highlighted the programme’s goal to enable universities to forge meaningful global partnerships, supporting India’s aspirations to become a leading global education hub.
This collaboration represents a significant effort to position Indian, and especially Maharashtrian, universities on the international academic map while strengthening their capacity to engage with global education networks.
