Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Thursday granted an extension to 44 temporary employees who had been retained despite failing to submit their Scheduled Tribe caste validity certificates.
The extension, approved by the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, will be in effect from February 18 this year to January 17, 2026, or until the respective employees reach their retirement age, whichever comes first.
The decision follows a series of government resolutions addressing the issue of employees who were originally scheduled for termination due to non-compliance with caste validity requirements.
“To prevent administrative disruptions and uphold a humanitarian approach, the state had previously created numerous temporary positions equivalent to the number of affected employees,” noted a government resolution released on Thursday. These positions were granted extensions at various intervals, with the most recent one expiring on February 16.
As per the latest resolution, three of the initially extended 47 positions have been vacated due to retirements, leaving 44 employees eligible for continued service. This includes 24 employees from Group C, 11 from Group D, and 9 who had previously been terminated. Their salaries will be allocated under the respective budget headings.
The government clarified that the decision aligns with prior resolutions dated December 2019, June 2020, and December 2022, ensuring consistency in its approach.
