Maharashtra Govt Directs Schools and Colleges to Commemorate 45 National Leaders’ Anniversaries Starting 2025 | Representative Photo
The Maharashtra Government, on Friday, issued a circular directing all government and non-government schools and colleges across the state to commemorate the birth anniversaries of 45 national leaders and great personalities, along with national days, from the year 2025.
As part of the celebrations, educational institutions are required to display informational boards providing a brief overview of the lives and contributions of these figures. The government has specified that the information must be printed on sunboards measuring 23 inches by 25 inches.
Basanti Roy, former secretary of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Mumbai Division, commented on the directive, stating, “Implementing this mandate should not pose any significant challenges for schools and colleges. It only involves displaying informational boards with a brief introduction about the personality or the significance of the national day, rather than organising full-day events.” She further noted that many schools and colleges already conduct celebrations for many of these days.
Highlighting the educational benefits of the initiative, Roy said, “These boards can serve as a means for students to learn about lesser-known leaders who have made significant contributions to the country. While many are familiar with figures like Indira Gandhi, fewer students may know about Birsa Munda, an Indian tribal independence activist. This initiative can help bridge that gap and inform the younger generation about other important leaders.”
The content for the display boards will also be made available under the “Jayanti Falak” section on the official state website. Additionally, the costs for preparing and displaying these boards will be covered by the official budget of the educational department.
This initiative aims to educate and inspire students and citizens by highlighting the achievements and contributions of these national figures.
