Maharashtra Govt approves land for Palghar’s first ESIC hospital in Boisar at ₹1 token rate | Representational Image

Palghar, Maharashtra: In a landmark decision poised to significantly benefit the citizens and workforce of Palghar district, the establishment of the region’s first Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital has been approved.

The 150-bed healthcare facility will be situated in Kumbhavali village, strategically located near the Tarapur Industrial Estate in Boisar. The State Government has green-lit the provision of the essential land for this crucial project for a token sum of ₹1.

The finalization of this decision occurred during a high-powered meeting held on April 9, presided over by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The discussions centered on the transfer of the identified land in Kumbhavali for the proposed ESIC hospital at the symbolic cost of one rupee. Representatives from all relevant government departments present at the meeting resolved to expedite the necessary procedures to bring the hospital to fruition.

The realization of this long-awaited healthcare infrastructure is the culmination of persistent efforts by Member of Parliament Dr. Hemant Vishnu Savara over the past ten months and Shiv Sena District Chief Kundan Sankhe for the preceding two years. Dr. Savara had personally engaged with central ministers in Delhi, submitting a formal request. Their dedicated advocacy has now borne fruit, promising access to superior healthcare services for the numerous workers in Palghar district.

The pivotal meeting witnessed the presence of key administrative figures, including the Revenue Minister, Dr. Savara, Collector Dr. Indurani Jakhar, Divisional Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi, and other relevant administrative officers and divisional representatives.

This significant development is anticipated to bolster the healthcare infrastructure within Palghar district and expedite the process of social rehabilitation. Optimism is high for a notable enhancement in the overall health facilities available to the district’s population.

Industrial Workers Longed for Local Healthcare Solution

The Tarapur Industrial Estate, recognized as one of Asia’s major industrial zones, is home to over 1450 workers. The absence of readily available specialized medical care for common ailments and emergency situations arising from accidents has frequently necessitated the transfer of patients to distant cities like Mumbai, Thane, or even across state borders to Gujarat.

Furthermore, the lack of a general hospital within Palghar district has often compelled workers to seek treatment at private clinics or hospitals, leading to financial strain and considerable inconvenience.

Despite regular deductions from the wages of workers in the Tarapur Industrial Estate towards the ESIC scheme, the absence of a local ESIC hospital previously forced them to undertake arduous journeys to Mumbai for availing treatment under the scheme.

The allocation of land in Kumbhavali, Boisar, offers a beacon of hope, with the expectation that quality medical services will become conveniently accessible to the residents and the significant working population of the Boisar region in the near future.
