Mumbai is set to mark a new milestone in urban infrastructure with the inauguration of the Reay Road Bridge on May 13. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will officially open the city’s first land-based cable-stayed bridge at 7 PM in a ceremony at Reay Road.
About The Reay Road Bridge
This landmark bridge is a first of its kind for Mumbai. Unlike the iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link, which spans the Arabian Sea, the Reay Road Bridge stands out as it has been constructed entirely on land, showcasing a modern cable-stayed design adapted for dense urban areas.
The bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in south and east Mumbai, offering a faster, more direct route for daily commuters and freight vehicles.
In addition to the Reay Road Bridge, Chief Minister Fadnavis will also inaugurate another major infrastructure project the same day – the Titwala Road Overbridge (ROB). This inauguration will take place via video link from the Reay Road event.
Both projects are seen as critical to improving road connectivity and easing pressure on MMR’s overburdened rail and road systems.
With a project cost estimated at Rs 145 crore, the Reay Road bridge will have six lanes and include footpaths for pedestrians, ensuring smooth traffic flow. The structure will accommodate traffic movement under the Barrister Nath Pai Road underpass and maintain the necessary vertical clearance for vehicles passing under the Eastern Freeway, he said.
The new cable-stayed bridge ( Reay Road ) will not only serve as a critical infrastructure improvement but also as an aesthetically pleasing addition to Mumbai’s landscape, enhancing the heritage appeal of the area.
