Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Wednesday, visited Beed, a stronghold of NCP leader Dhananjay Munde, for the first time since the murder of Beed’s former sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. Amid allegations against Munde and apparent support from Ajit Pawar, Fadnavis declared his vision to build a ‘New Beed’.
This was also the first time he addressed Deshmukh’s murder. He said, “Such incidents will not be tolerated under any circumstances. No matter who is involved, action will be taken.” Accompanying Fadnavis were minister Pankaja Munde, who has also been made the district’s liaison minister, and BJP MLA Suresh Dhas, who has been consistently targeting Munde for his link with Valmik Karad, the key accused in the sarpanch murder.
BJP MLA Suresh Dhas Hits Out At Munde
During his speech, Dhas hit out at Munde again, this time in the presence of Fadnavis, alleging that certain politicians’ support for criminals has tarnished Beed’s reputation. Notably, Fadnavis has put the ball in Ajit Pawar’s court, saying he will be the one to decide whether Munde should be asked to resign.

Fadnavis praised Dhas for his work, calling him a “modern-day Bhagirath” for his contributions to the constituency. He further remarked that once Dhas takes up an issue, he is relentless until he achieves results.
He also appealed to the people of Beed, saying, “We are the warriors of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He united people from 18 different communities to establish Swarajya. Similarly, we must all live together in harmony and build a new and better Beed.”
