Satna (Madhya Pradesh): Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj in UP snarled up over 10,000 vehicles on the Rewa-Satna road on Wednesday. The occasion was Maghi Poornima Snan (special bathing) at Prayagraj where devotees were going through the thoroughfares of Rewa, Satna, Maihar and Katni.

As the traffic was unmanageable, the district administration in Katni urged the devotees to return to their homes. On the other hand, many devotees were sparing no effort to reach Prayagraj.

Hundreds of devotees, caught in the traffic gridlock throughout the night, slept on the road. The Satna and Katni railway stations were also teeming with crowd throughout the day and night.

As the day slipped past, the crowd swelled up. Collector of Rewa Pratibha Pal said policemen had been present at different places to help the devotees. Food is being provided to them at holding points, she said, adding that milk was also given to children.

To clear the traffic, the Rewa police opened five points by noon. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla said after receiving instructions from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the administration made all efforts to take care of the devotees.

Katni is the centre point for those who are going to Prayagraj by road. Some people have also reached Katni railway station. A few pilgrims wanted to reach Prayagraj after having a glimpse of the goddess in Maihar. For this reason, thousands of devotees reached Satna and Maihar.

The railway stations in both the districts were overcrowded. The five holding points from Chorhata bypass to Sohagi Pahari were opened to ease traffic. Sub-divisional officer of police Udit Mishra said that there had been traffic gridlocks on the Rewa-Satna road for the past few days. The administration wants to ease traffic congestion on this road, he said.
