Mumbai-Comedian Kunal Kamra, who faced the anger of Shiv Sena supporters after releasing the parody video criticizing Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his stand-up show New India, granted interim anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court on Friday. Justice Sundar Mohan also sent a notice to the second defendant Khar police in this regard and fixed the next hearing of the case on April 7. Kamra, 36, said that he has been going from Mumbai to Tamil Nadu since 2021 and has been a regular resident of the state since then. Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel has filed a complaint with the Khar police for making derogatory remarks against Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. After this, Kamra was summoned twice by the Mumbai Police. Kamra then said that she is afraid that the Mumbai Police will arrest her.
The High Court on the condition that Kamra would present a satisfactory bonds before the judicial magistrate of Vanur in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. Kamra had created a big controversy by singing a song while taking Shinde during his new India show at the Habitate Comedy Club located in Khar area of Mumbai. Angry with Kamra’s song, Shiv Sainiks vandalized the club and hotel and threatened to kill Kamra for not apologizing. After this Kamra also said that he would not apologize.
The Mumbai Police had asked Kamra to appear before the Khar police on 31 March, after which Kunal Kamra has obtained anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court against her arrest. Now the Mumbai Police cannot arrest Kamra till 7 April.
