Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav To Launch 90-Day ‘Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan’ On March 30 | X / Mohan Yadav

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh government is all set to launch the ‘Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan’ on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, March 30.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the campaign at the Kshipra River in Ujjain with a traditional water offering and prayers to Varun, the Water God.

This campaign will run for 90 days and will end on June 30. During this period, CM Yadav will inaugurate a new water conservation project every day. The initiative aims to conserve water and improve groundwater levels, to raise awareness about water conservation and follow the principle: ‘Save every drop of water to sustain life.’

The Madhya Pradesh government is actively working to protect water, forests, and land. CM Yadav highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide water conservation efforts have become a mass movement, and Madhya Pradesh is contributing by ensuring that water remains in local areas.

Key objectives of the the scheme are as follows: 

Rainwater harvesting and revival of traditional water sources

Community participation in conserving and developing water bodies

Tree plantation along rivers to encourage organic farming

Construction of small dams and reservoirs to maintain water levels

Drinking water stations in urban and rural areas

Pond construction at the Panchayat level to benefit farmers

Protection of wildlife through water conservation in forests and zoological parks

Major water conservation projects

Construction of 1,000 new ponds by the Rural Development Department

50,000 new farm ponds for small and marginal farmers

90 new irrigation projects to support agriculture

Restoration of old stepwells, wells, and traditional water bodies

Gabion structures, trenches, check dams, and ponds to sustain river water flow

Identification of Narmada Parikrama Path for water conservation and tree plantation

Cleaning of 40,000 km of canals and repair of water storage infrastructure

Community Engagement

Selection of one lakh ‘Jaldoots’ (Water Ambassadors) from villages

‘Pani Chaupal’ meetings to involve local communities in water conservation efforts

Encouragement of soak pit construction to prevent sewage from polluting water bodies

Heritage talks, exhibitions, and a ‘Sadanira Film Festival’ to spread awareness about Madhya Pradesh’s water traditions

Previous Achievements

The 2024 campaign led to the completion of over 38,000 water conservation projects, with an investment of Rs. 1,056 crore. Over 5,600 old stepwells and wells were restored, 3,700 new wells were constructed, and 2,900 check dams and stop dams were built.

The 2025 campaign aims to expand these efforts and make Madhya Pradesh a water-secure state. CM Dr. Yadav has urged all citizens to actively participate and transform this initiative into a mass movement for water conservation.
