Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said provisions will be made for universities to run medical colleges. Yadav made the statement at a meeting with vice chancellors of all universities in the state on Wednesday. It happened for the first time in the state that the Governor and the Chief Minister jointly addressed the vice chancellors.

At the meeting, it was clearly said that all universities should come under one banner. There are hardly any reasons that medical colleges should be run only through medical universities, he said, adding that other universities should also run medical colleges.

There should not be any problem if a medical college is run under Vikram University, he said, adding that a university should teach all subjects. Yadav directed the officials of the Higher Education Department to set up a task force and fix programmes within time limit to benefit students. He also said that the universities should come out of their limited area of activities.

Online evaluations should also be implemented and it should be seen that the activities related to students are completed within time limit, the Chief Minister said. The universities should be self-reliant and set up their own financial system and that vice chancellors will be evaluated on the basis of their performance, he said.

Governor Mangubhai Patel told the vice chancellors to put systems in the universities in a right direction and ensure that the student hostels are properly maintained. He further said the universities should focus on the curriculum connected to generating regional-level employment. Education should be based on the needs of the industrial units of a particular area, Patel said.

Besides the vice chancellors of the universities, the vice chancellors of medical universities, engineering universities, and agriculture universities were present at the meeting. Apart from the vice chancellors, the ministers and the officers of the departments concerned were also invited to the meeting.
