An extensive mock drill was held at La Martiniere College, Lucknow, on May 9, 2025, as part of a countrywide exercise to increase emergency preparedness at schools. The drill, conducted in accordance with instructions from the Union Home Ministry, aimed to train students, teachers, and staff in proper responses during emergencies like air raids, fires, or hostile attacks.

The exercise commenced with an alarm, prompting the instant coverage by students beneath benches and desks. Individuals who were exposed had to make rapid access to identified shelters. Rehearsals on evacuations, blackouts, and demonstrations on air raid alarms were involved. Staff members and educators performed the major part in helping guide students as well as strictly following every protocol for protection.

Addressing the significance of the drill, the principal stated, “This mock drill has happened because of the current situation in the country. We are at the time of war, and we want children to gain awareness. That’s why we first made the teachers aware on how to protect our school and children…,” as reported by the news agency IANS. The principal emphasised that the safety and preparedness of students is the school’s highest priority, especially given the ongoing hostilities and the government’s call for increased civil defense measures.

With the nation on high alert and schools across several states conducting similar drills, this exercise highlights the value of shared responsibility and vigilance. Besides reinforcing emergency procedures, the simulated drill also instilled strength and confidence among teachers and students to confront any threats during this time of national tension.
