Temperatures Drop All Time Low In Delhi; AQI At ‘Very Poor’ Quality. | ANI, Screengrab

New Delhi: The national capital is still facing ‘very poor’ air quality while experiencing its lowest minimum temperature of the season at 9°C on Saturday morning, down from 10°C the previous day.

The mean Air Quality Index (AQI) increased slightly from 334 to 346 compared to Friday’s reading. Weather predictions by IMD suggest the minimum temperature could drop below 10 degrees on Friday. The Early Warning System for Delhi predicts the Air Quality Index will remain ‘very poor’ until month-end, possibly avoiding severe pollution.

The Central Pollution Control Board categorises AQI from 0 to 50 as “good,” from 51 to 100 as “satisfactory,” from 101 to 200 as “moderate,” from 201 to 300 as “poor,” from 301 to 400 as “very poor,” and above 400 as “severe.”

Although wind speeds varied, reaching a high of 8 km/h on Friday, they helped prevent AQI from getting worse. However, the Advance Air Quality Early Warning System anticipates a decrease in wind speeds, which could limit ventilation and lead to higher pollution levels during the weekend.

The temperature dropped to a minimum of 10.2°C on November 21 before Thursday. Predictions indicate that the minimum temperature may decrease even more, potentially dropping below 10 degrees on Friday.

Over the past four days, there has been a significant decrease in the minimum temperature due to the acceleration of chilly northwesterly winds. On November 25th, the temperature was 14°C, while on November 26th it dropped to 11.9°C, and on November 27th it was 10.4°C.
