Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), April 6: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old man idetified as Samrez, a resident of Barugarh village, allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself with his girlfriend’s scarf after an argument with her in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district. A video has surfaced on social media in which the girlfriend is seen weeping while hugging the dead body of the youth. The police have taken the dead body into their custody and launched a probe into the matter.

The incident occurred on Sunday (April 6) morning near the Kurdikheda-Barugarh road under the Bihari Garh police station area.

According to police reports, some local farmers were on their way to their fields in the morning when they saw a young man hanging from a tree. A young woman was found nearby, crying. The farmers quickly informed the police about the incident.

Soon after receiving the information, the police arrived at the spot. They brought the body down from the tree and sent it to the hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Sagar Jain, shared more details. He said that the young woman at the scene told the police that the deceased was her lover, Samrez. The couple had been in a relationship for a long time, although they belonged to different religions.

According to her statement, the two met in a nearby field earlier that morning. During their meeting, they had a heated argument. In the middle of the fight, Samrez reportedly snatched the dupatta (a long scarf worn by women) from her neck and ran away. Moments later, he climbed a tree and used the same dupatta to hang himself.

The police are currently investigating the incident and speaking to locals and family members. They are waiting for the postmortem report, which will help confirm the exact cause and time of death.

The police have not found any suicide note so far and the investigation is ongoing.
