Mumbai – Residents of Colaba region of Mumbai have strongly opposed the construction of proposed JT for political leaders or social dignitaries near the Gateway of India. Residents of Colaba staged a peaceful protest at a public meeting this evening.
Citizens of South Mumbai and especially Colaba have expressed strong displeasure over the proposed plan to build a passenger jetty near the Gateway of India. Citizens have raised the issue that making such a jetty will reduce the beauty of the Gateway of India. Also, open space for the public will also be taken away.
Nevertheless, this metropolis have very little public, open, ventilated places or places for citizens. In such a situation, if a jetty is made for political leaders or dignitaries of other areas here, then there is a possibility that the movement of vehicles and the problem of hawkers will also increase.
An online signature campaign has also been launched to make their opposition more effective, in which 3,000 citizens have expressed their displeasure by signing. A WhatsApp group has also been started, which has included 2,000 citizens.
Citizens of South Mumbai and especially Colaba also organized a public meeting on Arthur Bridge Road on Saturday. It is being told that in the meeting, the citizens requested the concerned government agencies including the Maharashtra government not to implement the plan to make passenger jetty.
The residents of the Cuff Parade expressed their displeasure that the concerned government agency for the passenger JT project did not hold any discussion with the residents of South Mumbai nor took us into confidence. In addition, the entire Colaba region, including the Gateway of India, is considered extremely sensitive to maritime security. The Taj Mahal Hotel located in the same area was also targeted in 26/11 terrorist attacks. That terrorist attack is becoming a nightmare in the minds of the citizens of Mumbai.
