Mumbai: The city experienced a sudden change in weather on Wednesday, leaving residents puzzled. After a cold spell last week, where Mumbaikars had started wearing sweaters during the early hours, the city woke up to unexpected rains this morning.

Clouds gathered overnight and light showers began in some parts of the city and suburbs at dawn. Scattered rainfall was experienced in the SoBo area and also in the suburban pockets of Powai & Goregaon, as per an X account, Mumbai Rains. This unseasonal rain disrupted the routine of many, with roads turning slippery due to wet dust, causing pedestrians to slow down and walk cautiously to avoid slipping.

Sudden Showers Linked To Cyclone Fengal

The sudden showers are linked to Cyclone Fengal, which has caused major disruption in Tamil Nadu. The cyclone has also impacted weather conditions in the Konkan region, with Ratnagiri experiencing cloudy skies throughout Tuesday. According to weather reports, the low-pressure area created by the cyclone is moving from the Arabian Sea toward Oman and the weather department has predicted cloudy skies for the next 2-3 days. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Konkan, while light rain may also occur in central Maharashtra over the next three days.

Humidity Increases Due To Cloud Cover

In Mumbai, the sudden cloud cover and rainfall caused temperatures to rise, replacing the chilly weather with humidity and heat. Light showers disrupted the usual morning routine, forcing people to swap sweaters for umbrellas. Office-goers and commuters were caught off guard, scrambling to find shelter under shops and flyovers.

The rain also caused inconvenience on the roads, with wet surfaces leading to slower movement and cautious steps to avoid slipping. Despite the light intensity of the rain, it was enough to cause discomfort and delays. The city’s streets were marked by a mix of wet dust and sticky mud, further hampering the movement of pedestrians. This unexpected turn of weather, right in the middle of the winter season, has left Mumbaikars adapting to the sudden shift.
