In wake of the repeated action initiated by the encroachment department of NMMC against street vendors, a delegation of licensed vendors staged a protest before the headquarters.

“NMMC lately has been conducting regular drives against street vendors which has become a matter of concern for the licensed vendors. It became necessary that officials are apprised of the situation and some reprieve was achieved in the matter until the street vendor policy gets implemented,” said Prafulla Mhatre, the National Secretary, Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat.
The meeting was conducted with the deputy commissioner of encroachment and the primary objective was to demand the implementation of the street vendor policy.
The delegates also sought assurance from the administration of taking no action on licensed street vendors provided they have the documentary proof of the survey. Likewise street vendors who have availed the Prime Minister’s funds were asked to be removed.
“NMMC ought to have a mechanism to ensure that the licensed vendor won’t be troubled and their source of livelihood won’t be affected. Officials have assured that licensed vendors will not be troubled henceforth,” said Mhatre.
It was also conveyed to the civic authority to ensure that the delegation is included in any of the meetings scheduled in future with the authorities with regards to the implementation of the street vendor policy.
