Glenn Maxwell once again showed why he is considered one of the finest fielder in cricket. The all-rounder pulled off a stunning one handed catch during the Big Bash League Match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars on Wednesday.
The incident happened in the first ball of the 16th over bowled by Dan Lawrence to Will Prestwidge. The left hander tried to clear the long on where Maxwell has stationed himself.
The ball looked to going over the boundary rope only for Maxwell to pluck a six off the rope before going over the boundary and looping it back into the field underarm before running back into the field of play to claim it.
Commentator Mark Howard was left speechless and here’s what he said on the air, “What about this from Maxwell, there you go, unbelievable. We have seen some incredible catches this summer, but that is the catch of the year. We have just seen Maxwell like LeBron James flying through the air, flicks it back and does something that only Glenn Maxwell could do. It was thed alleyoop set up. I don’t think I have ever seen a better catch than that.”
Melbourne Stars on top against Brisbane Heat
Melbourne Stars captain Marcus Stoinis won the toss and elected to field first. The move paid off for Stoinis as bowlers kept chipping with wickets at regular intervals. Heat lost half the side with just 68 runs on board. Max Bryant’s unbeaten 77 off just 48 balls ensured that Heat finished their innings at 149/7 in 20 overs.
For Stars, Mark Steketee was a tad expensive but picked up 2 wickets. Th rest of the bowlers barring Stoinis picked up one wicket apiece. At the time of writing the Stars were struggling at 26/3 with Xavier Barlett picking up 2 wickets.
