Mumbai: 9,900 trees will be cut for the work of car shed in Dahisar-Meera-Bhayandar Metro Line 9, Dongri. Therefore environmentalists have strongly opposed cutting these trees. In this regard, more than 100 people have staged a sit -in at the Municipal Corporation headquarters, objecting to the hearing process.

The Metro Line-9 is being constructed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Area Development Authority (MMRDA). Car sheds were proposed in Bhayandar’s rye, Murdha and Morwa for this route. However, due to opposition from citizens to build a car shed there, the state government had to change the location of the car shed. Accordingly, the state government decided to build a car shed in Uttan, Dongri and allowed to build a car shed. After this, MMRD started the work of making car sheds in an area of 59.65 hectares. Accordingly, trees will have to be cut in the hills for car shed work, so MMRD has decided to run an ax on 11,306 trees. Of these, 1,406 trees have been cut and Meera-Bhayander Municipal Corporation issued a notice of cutting 9,900 trees on March 12.

More than 100 people objected to the decision to cut trees. Therefore, the hearing process was conducted in the presence of Kalpita Pimple, Deputy Commissioner of Horticulture Department at Manpa Headquarters.
