Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A labourer turned towards committing thefts in trains to earn quick money and became the leader of a four-member gang. The GRP police busted the gang on Monday while arresting the kingpin and seizing considerable quantity of stolen valuables from him.
The gang used to target selected trains with high profile passengers, GRP officials said. In-charge at GRP station Inspector Zaheer Khan said that following a tip-off, the team arrested Asif Khan of Chhola Mandir area. Asif worked as a labourer but he started committing thefts in trains to earn quick cash.
Asif used to board trains which used to halt at the outer of Bhopal Railway Station and decamp with luggage and other valuables of passengers. Asif soon formed a gang of three with three of his friends Faizan Kala, Umar Khan and Faizan Bachha. The gang used to target selected trains with high profile passengers. Asif’s friends used to be present on the side of the railway tracks on their bike while he used to throw luggage and trolley bags from the trains.
The stolen luggage etc was taken to their hideouts on the bike where valuables were distributed among them. The accused confessed to have committed four thefts in trains and was being questioned further. Eight mobiles, six laptops, 4 trolley bags, some jewellery and clothes worth Rs 5.50 lakh along with the bike used in the crime have been recovered from the accused. Efforts were on to trace and arrest the other two accused, the unspector added.
