Mumbai: Residents of Kurla are up in arms against BMC for building a bad-quality road in Kajupada area, which has developed cracks in no time.
The residents demand that penal actions should be taken against the contractor for wasting public money in cement concreting the road.
Activist Anil Galgali said that the road was built less than a year ago at the cost of Rs 10 crore.
In a letter sent to the additional municipal commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, Galgali said, “Despite the completion of cement concreting work on Kajupada Road in Kurla L Ward, cracks were noticed within a short time. It is clear that the work has not been completed as per the quality standards. The poor quality road is obstructing public transport and endangering the safety of citizens,” the letter says.
Galgali said that it is important to take punitive action against such contractors and should be blacklisted for doing shoddy work and wasting public money and causing inconvenience.
“Such frauds will be prevented only if penal action is taken against the contractors. The road in Kajupada, Kurla is just an example of several poor quality roads in Mumbai,” Galgali said.
The resident urged BMC to repair the road immediately and ensure proper maintenance.
